Usually tooth sensitivity may cause discomfort or pain after eating cold food, drinking cold liquids, or breathing cold air. If your pain is very high and prolonged, this may be a sign of an unhealthy tooth nerve. I woudld probably be in your best interest to call for a dental appointment. Also note that poor oral hygiene can lead to plaque build-up around teeth and gums. This plaque hardens into tartar. Bacteria in this tartar causes gingivitis and periodontal disease that cause gum recession. Hope this helps.
