Fabrice, There are some signs that you might notice which may indicate the need for a deep cleaning. The appearance of your gums would be a good indication. Puffiness of your gums, or bleeding when you brush or floss is a good indication that you may need some deep cleaning. Some other signs may include recession of your gums or if your teeth are sensitive to cold temperatures. These are a few signs that you may be able to notice without a dental examination. The underlying reason for needing a deep cleaning - commonly known as scaling and root planing- is periodontal pocketing. The only way to properly check for periodontal pocketing under the gums would be to have a dental examination. We would be more than happy to set up an appointment with you to have an evaluation of your gums and your general dental care and needs. Our office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and we happily welcome new patients.
