Root Canal Decayed Tooth - Pull Tooth - Crown

I have a decayed tooth which either needs "pulled and get a bridge or root canal and crown to save the tooth." My problem is the decayed tooth already has had root canal and a crown. I thought when this was done . . done; no more decay problems. What's the deal here?
