baby root canal

hi, my son who is 9yrs old was complaining of toothache from past 2 days. so i took him to a dentist today. the doctor suggested that baby root canal has to be done on his tooth. but i heard from some ppl that it is not good to have root canal at this age. so can u pls tell me what can i do? go with root canal or extract the tooth as it is his baby tooth
