Baby teeth are there for a reason so you don't want to pull them out unless absolutely necessary. Root canals, or pulpotomies- as they are referred to on children- on baby teeth are not uncommon. The argument in favor of doing a pulpotomy on the baby tooth would be to keep it in place and not disrupt the formation and alignment of the remaining teeth. Baby teeth also hold the spacing for permanent teeth to come in. The argument in favor of pulling the tooth would be not to bother with the pulpotomy, and just pull the tooth, he's going to lose it in a few years anyway.
